The Marquette Redman hosted the Kingsford Flivvers in boys varsity soccer Thursday evening at the Kaufman sports complex and came away with a 4-2 victory.
Trevor Salmon got the scoring started off a rebounded shot from Nick Lindberg. Lindberg then extended the lead to 2-0 off a Salmon and Nick Asmus pass. Salmon put in one more goal before the half off another Lindberg assist making it 3-0 in favor of MSHS at halftime.
After halftime, Kingsford was able to put in back-to-back goals, cutting the MSHS lead to 3-2. With eight minutes remaining in the game, Salmon took a Connor Johnson throw in and went short side on the keeper, making it 4-2.
MSHS keeper, Harrison Anthos, faced seven shots in the first half and 11 in the second half.
Marquette improves to 8-5-1 on the season and travel to Eagle River Wisconsin on Saturday to take on Northland Pines high school.
Quote from head coach Dan Menze:
- “Kids played a great first half, lost a little bit of focus in the second half, but credit to Kingsford, they came out firing in the second half, once we weathered the storm the final 20 we got back to our game and held them in check, good to see the team move forward from the loss against them earlier in the year and we look forward to playing them again at the end of the year”
