Olympic Gold Medalist Nick Baumgartner To Appear At Tonight’s Home Hockey And Boys Basketball Games

Upper Peninsula native and Olympic Gold Medalist, Nick Baumgartner, will be be honored for his amazing accomplishment at a pair of Marquette Senior High School home athletics events this evening (Thursday, 2/17/22).

First, prior to tonight’s varsity hockey game between MSHS and Houghton (6:30 p.m.; Lakeview Arena), Nick will be honored prior to the game and take part in a ceremonial puck drop.

Afterwards, he will then be honored at halftime of the varsity boys basketball game between Marquette and Negaunee (Barb Crill Gymnasium; 7:00 p.m.).

All members of the community are encouraged to come out as we honor Nick, while also cheering on our MSHS student-athletes!

About Nick Baumgartner

Born in Iron River, Baumgartner was an All-American and state champ in wrestling, state champion hurdler, and All-State football player at West Iron County High School.  

The Beijing Olympics are Baumgartner’s fourth Winter Olympics, participating in the 2010, 2014, and 2018 Winter Olympics.  Nick has also competed in the 2011 and 2012 Winter X Games, capturing a gold and silver medal.

Baumgartner competed alongside gold medalist Lindsey Jacobellis in the Olympic debut of mixed team snowboard cross. Competing against competition half his age, Nick rallied alongside his teammates to defy the odds and pull away with a gold medal for the United States.
