MSHS Athletics To Add Boys and Girls Mountain Biking Teams For 2023-24

Marquette Senior High School Athletics has announced the addition of Boys and Girls Mountain Biking Teams for the 2023-2024 academic year.  The new sport offering will be added to the menu of fall athletics opportunities available to students beginning in Fall 2023.

The addition of the school-affiliated teams was announced at the MAPS Board of Education Meeting held on December 19.  The administration of the program will be jointly carried out by Marquette County Interscholastic Cycling (MCIC) and MSHS Athletics.

MSHS becomes the first Upper Peninsula school with an official scholastic mountain biking racing program and just the sixth in the state of Michigan.  Teams will compete in the Wisconsin Interscholastic Cycling League (WICL), which provides structure for the 70+ participating teams and over 2,000 competing athletes in the rapidly growing sport of mountain biking.  The WICL is one of 34 leagues in the country that are approved by the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).

Practices for the 2023 MSHS Mountain Biking season will begin on or shortly after July 1, 2023.  In order to participate as part of the MSHS Boys/Girls Mountain Biking Teams, student-athletes will need to be entering grades 9-12 at MSHS and have a valid physical form on file (dated on/after April 15, 2023).

The competition schedule for the 2023 season is as follows:
